Gone Home will be released on August 15!

Check out that headline!!

Today we’re announcing that Gone Home will be released on PC, Mac and Linux on August 15, 2013! We’re super excited that we’re only TWO WEEKS AWAY from release! It is kind of crazy to type that out!

To answer a few questions: Gone Home will be available for $19.99 on Steam and DRM-free via our own website, http://www.gonehomegame.com (which you should check out now, because our friends Chris Remo and Jake Rodkin made it super pretty.)

We aren’t doing preorders, or a demo. But we can’t wait for people to get their hands on the game on August 15!

To celebrate the announcement, we’re posting four new screens from the game. Since Gone Home is all about exploring a family’s house to uncover their story by finding artifacts and clues they’ve left behind, we’re releasing four of those artifacts today, below. Gig posters, business cards, cryptic notes and newspaper clippings start pointing toward the story of a house, and the fate of the Greenbriar family.

Thanks for checking it out, everybody! Here’s to August 15!

I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS AAAAAAAAAAA

Seriously I’ve been eagerly awaiting this game ever since it was announced and I’m totally pumped that the release is in sight. Here’s hoping it becomes the next indie smash-hit and you all make mad bank.

TWENTY DOLLARS??? I GUESS I’M WAITING FOR A STEAM SALE!!!

Just kidding. This is a day one perch for sure. If I could pre-order, I would. Can’t throw my money at you fast enough.

  3. Travis says:

It seems like you could make a creative physical disc version of this to sell, that ties in with the games plot maybe, like a postcard cd sleeve, etc. I’m not a fan of digital purchases, sadly.

    • TeaJay says:

Buy a DRM-free copy from them at release and then burn it to a disk then. :/

    • Dan says:

I like the idea of a theme related sleeve/case. While pricey, maybe it could be an “upsell.” I’d pay more for something theme related and a lot of game developers have that as part of their launch.

I’m going to purchase it day one, unless you screw up the pricing in Brazil ($19.99=R$34.99, please). I’ve been interested in it since I first heard about it.

  5. Fox says:

Is the direct purchase going to come with a Steam key? I love to have all my games on Steam, but I also love to buy direct. Either way, I’ll be playing on Aug. 15th!

Just in time for my birthday. 🙂

Greats news guys!!! I’ve been waiting with fever since the beta trailer video!! Will it be available with french subtitles?

    • Steve says:

We’re using a system where players can create their own subtitle files and distribute them. So the game will only ship in English on day 1, but hopefully the community will begin translating the game to various languages soon after!

      • drdeandarko says:

That’s a really good idea. I think I’ve seen a few games do a system similar to this before, I hope it becomes more prominent for other projects.

      • can’t wait to have the game! so how do we get access to the game’s subtitles? by buying the game? can we get the subs in advance to prepare for the release? I’m a Russian, btw.

also, any chance to have a Wii U version one day? the piece is starving for games and this one would be a natural fit. what do you say?

        • Steve says:

          Hi Vladimir,

Yes, the subtitles will be freely distributable once the game is released. We are supporting Cyrillic characters for Russian translation.

We are currently investigating additional platforms, but don’t have specific plans to bring Gone Home to Wii U at this time.

          • Hi, Steve!

Great to hear it! I will play and translate it simultaneously then, while on vacation 🙂
What about graphic things like paper clips, book-covers, etc? Will the game provide optional subtitles for them too? Please, say yes! 🙂

            • Steve says:

Yes! Any story relevant text has subtitle options. Incidental things like a box of cereal, no. But any note, letter, book cover, etc., yes.

              • nukarmer says:

I could wish nothing more. Thanks for your time and have a great launch!

  10. Dave says:

    First off, great news, congratulations!
Any info on the payment options for the direct purchase from the website?

  11. Jack says:

Fantastic news! Will there be a GoodOldGames version as well with all sort of extra goodies?

    • Steve says:

We’re only planning to launch on Steam and our own site. We may look into other distribution platforms later. The version on our site will be DRM-free.

      • Jack says:

Fair enough, I’m buying it either way as long as it’s DRM-free. And, before I go, let me quickly thank you for the work you’ve done on Minerva’s Den, I was truly blown away by it.

        Good luck with Gone Home!
